All Things Meal.

Now that Hannah is eating the same food we are it makes it easy & at the same time difficult. Easy because we don’t need to cook 2 different meals. Difficult because now WE HAVE TO COOK! lol

Starting next week I will be doing weekly posts of what I cook for Hannah! So to start this off here is a little intro of how we’ve begun our solids transition!

Since Hannah started eating solids my biggest worry was giving her too much fruit, or too little veggies, not enough protein, too much protein! What about dairy? She still gets her 3 bottles a day.. do I give her yogurt also? I swear its like starting all over again with a schedule.. but now prepping meals!

  1. I always implement a fat in all her meals – for breakfast we do 1 spoon of peanut or almond butter in her oatmeal. For Lunch & Dinner our go to is coconut oil or olive oil. I still do small batches of Puree for emergency situations lol, and I also add coconut oil or some olive oil in there! If I feel she won’t be getting enough fat from a meal I am serving (chicken breast, ground turkey), I give her avocado with the meal.
  2. Protein: Hannahs favorite is flounder and ground beef! Since those are on the juicy and soft side she likes to eat those alone. Chicken & ground turkey I usually do in puree, pasta dishes or with mashed sweet potato, and mixed together with soft veggies.
  3. Veggies: I do need to be more consistent with adding more veggies to her dinner meals (maybe this will make Kenny & I start eating them too lol) But We do one big pot for her batches of puree! Peas, corn, green beans, sweet potato, yuca, malanga, chicken/turkey, broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkin, spinach, mushrooms, onion, garlic and LOVE. We always like having a freezer batch of puree incase I don’t have time the next day to make lunch or if there are no leftovers from the night before!
  4. Fruit: Baby girl LOVES her fruit… We offer her fruits at every meal, she loves her blueberries, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi!

On the Go Pouches: The brand that I buy for Pouches whenever I am running errands is Sprout Organic Baby Food & if on sale Plum Organic. My Number 1 is SPROUT. They have pouches with plant based protein which I love, they also do broth protein, and hearty protein certified organic and free range! The hearty protein I was a bit hesitant to buy because I mean its meat.. in a pouch?! but did end up purchasing a few for a cruise trip we took her on and she really liked the meat & turkey.

Most pouches Ive realized have anywhere from 10g-16g of sugar for one 4oz pack. So I like to stay below the 8g of sugar mark if it is a fruit based pouch (I use these sometimes in her breakfast oatmeal) & when on the go I stay below 3g of sugar per pouch. Trying to UP the veggies and protein.

Snacks: Were not so much on the snack routine yet, once we drop another bottle I’m sure I will need to come up with more ideas lol. But for now She does munch on Gerber Organic yogurt melts & the puffs while we are out or while I am preparing her lunch/dinner!

My birth story.

July 30th, 8:30PM.

I was getting out of the shower & getting ready for bed when I turned to Kenny & said… Well tomorrow is July 31st, tomorrow could be the day! It was weird that I had been fixated on this date for the past few weeks, as one of my best friends kept telling me that she would be born on Harry Potters birthday which is July 31st. Kenneth & I for some reason would joke July 31st, July 31st. So when the night before came around, I had this stillness that till this day I can’t explain. I knew that the next day she would be here in our arms… and I was so relaxed about it (Which if you know me… it’s so NOT me).

During the middle of the night I started getting lower back pain, which had happened to me a handful of times during the end of my pregnancy. I would get up and use the bathroom and after a few minutes the pain would go away. I would usually wait and see if it would go away on its own before getting up – at 5:25am the pain had gotten sharp so I got up and before I could even make it to the bathroom I thought I had peed myself.   NOPE – I had small traces of blood & fluid dripping down. I called for Kenny, and said “I think my water had broken?” (Still in the stillness from the night before, because to me I wasn’t shocked this was happening). All i wanted to do at this point was to text Yiselle YOU GOT THE DATE RIGHT!!! Lol.

Hannah’s Doc Band

Pretty girl recently got a Doc Band right before Christmas & she has been going to physical therapy since she was 2 1/2 months. When she was almost 2 months we began to notice that she would not lift her head when facing right, and when she did she would move her head to the left and keep it there – Making tummy time very difficult. We also began to notice she had a slight bump on the front right of her forehead, as well as some flatness on her right side behind her ear. We addressed our concerns at her 2 month appointment – we were told she has right side Torticollis (tight neck muscle) and early signs of Plagiocephaly (flat head) our Doctor recommended we see a Physical Therapist for an evaluation.

We addressed our concerns at her 2 month appointment – we were told she has right side Torticollis (tight neck muscle) and early signs of Plagiocephaly (flat head) our Doctor recommended we see a Physical Therapist for an evaluation.

  1. What is Torticollis? Neck Muscle tightness. Doctors believe it could be related to the cramping of a fetus inside the uterus, abnormal positioning &/or the use of forceps/vacuum devices during delivery. Although it could of honestly been all 3.. who knows? in her case we believe it was more positional, as she was also born with a flat ear on the same side she has the Torticollis. (we saw a pediatric plastic surgeon within 5 days of her birth & had her ear molded… also SO happy we did. Once babies are 3+ months their cartilage hardens – therefore she would of had to do actual plastic surgery in the future).
  2. What is Plagiocephaly? A condition that causes a baby’s head to have a flat spot or be misshapen. Babies with Torticollis can also develop a flat spot on their skull because they often sleep with their head turned to one side.

At her evaluation she was confirmed for right side Torticollis along with a Left Tilt. The degree of movement compared to her favored side was at a 30 degree difference. We began Physical Therapy the following week & I am so happy we did. We love her Physical Therapist!

Her most recent evaluation was AMAZING as she is already at full range with her stretches on both side to side stretches & ear to shoulder! We agreed with the Therapist that we would continue going until she learns how to stand, as babies can regress with Torticollis as they reach certain milestones. We currently go twice a week – work on stretches & reaching her milestones!

Shower Details

I feel like it was just December in between a dentist appointment & going to the allergists that we found out we were pregnant! I remember that day like it was yesterday – yelling across the house to Kenny, and us calling my cousin in sheer shock lol.

These past few months have honestly passed by in a blink of an eye / ITS INSANE! Taking a cruise, planning a gender reveal, baby registry, work & our mini Disney trip… Before I knew it, it was baby shower day and Kenny’s mom was in town for the weekend. We did our shower at the one and only deliciousness of Finka in their private patio area. Our menu consisted of their amazing Islas Canarias croquetas, Vaca frita tostones, Vaca frita pizza, Churrasco with sweet potato mash and I had to spoil my favorite babes with fountains of Moscow Mules & their Hit me baby one more thyme (Yes you can say I was jealous, as I’m there drinking a mock tail lol). The aftermath of the shower was getting everything organized and washed, one thing I didn’t realize was how long it would take us to do it all – 1 week exactly! I leave you here with some of my favorite shower details.
